How To Plant A Cedar

Few nature lovers can boast that real cedar grows on their garden plot. Of the several species of these beautiful conifers, the Lebanese cedar depicted on the national flag of Lebanon is most famous. Being a heat-loving plant, cedar is not able to tolerate the harsh climatic conditions of Russia. The so-called Siberian cedar is actually just a kind of cedar pine. Is it possible to grow a cedar pine under its window?

You will need:
  • Potassium permanganate in solution, peat, sand, pine nuts, wooden box
Instruction manual:
  1. You can grow cedar in your own garden . The main thing is to select and properly prepare the seeds .
  2. In nature, Siberian cedar can reach a very impressive size - more than forty meters in height. The life expectancy of these trees exceeds three hundred years. The crown is dense, wide and has a luxurious volume. Cedar pine is easily identified by needles, assembled in five pieces in one bunch.
  3. The best place for cedar pine growth is a slightly shaded area. There are no strict requirements for soil quality. It should be borne in mind that cedar does not tolerate stagnation of water, so it is desirable that the soil passes water well. And the rest, Siberian cedar pines are unpretentious, tolerate harsh winter conditions.
  4. To plant cedar pine you need pine nuts. You can buy them on the market. Red-hot and peeled nuts are not suitable. Quality material has a pleasant smell, has no signs of mold.
  5. Seeds should be kept for several hours in a solution of potassium permanganate for dressing. Such treatment will help prevent the development of certain diseases.
  6. Soak the nuts in water for three days. Changing water is recommended daily. After this, the water must be drained and mixed planting material with peat (well-washed sand will also work).
  7. Moisten the mixture thus prepared and then place in a wooden box. Make small holes in the sides of the drawer to ensure airflow. Every three weeks, the seeds should be moistened. To store the drawer, a cellar or an ordinary refrigerator is suitable.
  8. Full aging of the nuts will take several months. The development of seeds goes well at high humidity and fairly low temperatures. Therefore, you can sow nuts right before the start of the winter period right on the prepared bed.
  9. Remember that cedar pine does not tolerate fresh organic fertilizers, but tolerates transplantation well. Be patient and you will appreciate the beauty and charm of the Siberian beauty. Practice shows that Siberian cedar pine perfectly survives in all regions of our country, including the Moscow region.
