How To Plant A Rose With Cuttings

A rose is a flower that you can confidently say that everyone loves it. There is no person indifferent to her tenderness and gentleness, regal splendor and impregnability. Everyone admires the beauty of this flower. Rose decorates our homes, gardens and summer cottages. Having one variety, I want to get two, three. Liked or especially favorite variety can be easily propagated. For example, cuttings. With apparent simplicity, this simple method still requires the implementation of certain rules.

Instruction manual:

  1. Prepare nutrient ground . To do this, take 2 parts of the greenhouse humus, 2 parts of a mixture of river sand and clay, to which a little bird droppings are added. Clay can be replaced with turfy soil (it’s good to take it from under the nettle, choosing soil rich in nutrients). Before filling the pot with earth, arrange drainage from expanded clay or small pebbles on its bottom.
  2. From the stem of the rose (it is best to take the branch on which the flower just bloomed ), cut the cuttings with a sharp knife or blade. The slice should have an acute angle. Make sure that there are at least 3 buds on each handle. If there are leaves on the stem , remove them or cut them in half.
  3. Place the cuttings for 6 hours in a solution of succinic acid or heteroauxin, they can be bought at a flower shop (carefully read the instructions). This will accelerate the germination and further rooting of the flower.
  4. Insert the cuttings at an angle into the moistened ground. Use your fingers to grip the soil around each stalk to eliminate air voids (i.e. the stalk must sit firmly in the ground). Cover with cling film, cut plastic bottle or glass jar. Remember to ventilate from time to time. Watering is moderate, as the soil surface dries. It will be better if for the period of rooting you place your plantings in a dark place.
  5. After a few days, young leaflets should appear on the cuttings. Remove the film (bottles, cans) and place the pot on the windowsill. Protect roses from direct sunlight. Do not rush to transplant cuttings into other pots or into the open ground in the garden. Give them a good fit.

Note:
The process of rooting cuttings in different roses sometimes varies greatly in time. Some varieties form callus on the cuttings (a white tuberous growth below, from which roots subsequently emerge) and grow quickly enough, while others grow much more slowly, although the rooting conditions are the same. And others, the so-called slow-thinking roses, do not want to take root for months, not dying at the same time, but not developing. There is one way out - wait patiently. Also, be prepared for the fact that not all cuttings will be able to take root at all.
