How To Grow Mallow

  1. In the middle band Russia mallow most often grown as a biennial plant. If the mallow grows on a site suitable for it , then before dying in the autumn of the second year of life, it spills seeds abundantly. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to take care of the conditions . Choose a sunny area for mallow. The soil should be fertile and loose. This plant does not tolerate waterlogging, therefore, good drainage is necessary. In addition, it is necessary to protect the site from strong winds. A lonely stem with heavy leaves and flowers just can not stand the gale. Therefore, it is best to plant the mallow next to the house or fence.
  2. No need to plant mallow seedlings. Quite the contrary, this plant must be immediately planted in a permanent place. Mallow is very poorly tolerated by transplants, in which it is very easy to damage a long root. Make drainage from rubble or broken brick. Prepare the soil from equal parts of leaf and peat land, humus, peat and sand. Loosen and moisten the ground. Make small pits 50 cm apart. The depth of the pits should not exceed 5 cm. Plant the seeds and cover them with earth.
  3. Shoots will appear in two weeks. They must be weeded regularly. At the first stage, mallow grows and develops rather slowly, and there is a big risk that weeds will not allow it to grow normally. Mallows usually do not bloom in the first year. They form a rosette of beautiful scalloped leaves, and so stand until the fall. They need to be watered regularly and well. However, mallow does not like stagnant water in the soil.
  4. In the autumn, feed the flowers with humus. For 1 square. m area, take 4 kg of fertilizer. This can be done in early spring. It is better to cover the flower garden for the winter with a mixture of fallen leaves, hay and spruce branches. This plant is not afraid of short autumn and spring frosts, but in winter it is better to be warm, especially if winters in your area are not very snowy.
  5. In the spring, tie the plants to the pegs. It just seems that the mallow stalk is very strong. When heavy leaves and flowers appear on it, it may not stand it. In warm summers, mallows bloom profusely until the fall. Cut flowers look great in a vase of water, besides the buds in the water always open.
