How To Propagate Dracaena

How To Propagate Dracaena

Dracaena can be propagated in three ways. The first consists in seed propagation, the second - in the cuttings of the stems, and in the third use layering from the top of the plant. It should be borne in mind that the first method reproduces only green forms of dracaena. But their variegated sisters breed exclusively in a vegetative way. The best time to breed dracen is spring, but at another time, you can also try to propagate the plant. Consider all three methods in more detail.

  1. For seed propagation of dracaena, you first need to prepare the seeds . Soak them in a stimulating solution with a temperature of about 30 ° C per day. Then sow in the ground . Prefabricated soil mixtures specifically designed for palm plants are preferred. It is more convenient to take disposable cups for sowing. Pour the soil after sowing, cover the cup with polyethylene and place in a warm place.
  2. Seeds will germinate in about 4-8 weeks. Protect hatching sprouts from direct sunlight and avoid excessive desiccation or waterlogging of the soil . Subsequent care of the sprouts comes down to top dressing once a month, as well as transplanting the plants when they reach a height of 4-5 cm.
  3. Cuttings. For propagation by cuttings, select a young strong stalk, cut it into several segments 3-5 cm long with a sharp knife or razor. Make it so that on each of the segments of the stem there are at least two eyes. On one side, cut the bark on each stalk and stick them into the prepared soil for young plants. Protect plants from direct sunlight by placing them in a warm place. Watch out for humidity. The first shoots will appear in 1.5-2 months. Spray the leaves of young plants more often with spray water - they love it.
  4. To propagate the dracaena in the third way, take the top from the used plant or the top cut from the mother plant. In its place, new shoots will not be slow to appear. Put the cut tops in a glass or jar of water and pour a little charcoal there. After about three months, plant the tops in the ground when they give root.

Note:
Dracaena (Dracaena). The family is agave. Reproduction. Dracaena at home reproduces well by cuttings. For this, the top of the stem is cut and stuck in the above-described earth mixture. Rooted dracaena under a cap or bag, while requiring regular watering, airing and spraying.
