How To Plant A Chestnut

Anyone who has ever seen a chestnut in bloom will never forget this sight. A lush crown literally flashes in the spring with many white candles. In addition, both chestnut flowers and its fruits have medicinal properties, which is why the desire of many people to grow chestnuts under their windows is understandable.

Instruction manual:
  1. The easiest way is to plant a ready-made seedling in the ground . Note that the chestnut tree needs a fairly large space to form a beautiful spreading crown. In this regard, leave at least 5 meters of free area around each tree for each tree. It’s good if the place turns out to be sunny, but a light partial shade of chestnut is also quite suitable.
  2. Dig a hole in the form of a cube with a side of 50-60 cm. Prepare the substrate by mixing the ground with humus and 0.5 kg of dolomite flour. Do not deepen the basal neck, and taking into account future subsidence of the soil, raise the landing hole by 10-15 centimeters. Pour a large amount of water over the seedlings and install supporting supports around it until the chestnut root system is strong enough to withstand gusts of wind.
  3. People who want to grow chestnut from a nut most often fail. They collect nuts, bring home, do their best to process or germinate them. Chestnuts either do not emerge at all, or die at a very early stage. At the same time, young growth can often be seen around an adult tree, rampantly growing without any tricks.
  4. The surprise of the hapless gardeners is understandable, but they should admit that they are too smart. Chestnut seeds require a long exposure, from 2 to 5 months, in a humid and cold environment. Therefore, just leave the nuts to winter on the street. You do not need to dig them into the soil, just make a small depression in the ground, put a nut in it, sprinkle with fallen leaves, wood shavings and other autumn garbage. Forget about the chestnut for a while, and in the spring it will sprout at the right time.
  5. If you want to germinate the nut you brought from somewhere, wrap it in moist gauze and put it in the refrigerator door until it germinates. After that, the sprout of the chestnut can be transferred to the soil. However, the chances of his survival will not exceed 50%.
